Brief Opioid Overdose Knowledge (BOOK©) Screen

Opioid misuse remains a critical public health challenge affecting every state. The opioid crisis now claims over 270 American lives each day and costs the U.S. economy more than $1 trillion annually. We cannot treat our way out of the opioid crisis. Prevention and early detection are essential to turning the tide. Without them, lasting progress will remain out of reach.

WellScreen™ is the only technology on the market that integrates BOOK©—a tool specifically designed to detect gaps in knowledge among individuals who are using opioids.

BOOK© was developed by Johns Hopkins researchers with funding from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, to detect knowledge gaps in opioid users and guide education.

  • 12-question screening on opioid knowledge and overdose response
  • Automatically recommends an evidence-based educational module
  • Helps reduce overdose risk through education

BOOK© is a valuable tool for:

  • Counselors
  • Treatment Providers
  • Child Welfare Workers
  • Healthcare Professionals
  • Community-Based Practitioners

Online Assessment

The BOOK© structured screening questionnaire includes twelve true/false questions that assess knowledge related to opioid use, overdose risks, and appropriate response strategies. Based on the results, practitioners may recommend an educational module to increase understanding of opioid safety and overdose response.

Education Module

WellScreen™ offers an evidence-based education module designed to improve patient knowledge of opioids, overdose risks, and lifesaving response strategies.
